About Me

Biography

I was born in Los Angeles and raised in Northridge, California. I am a second generation Korean-American. For as long as I could remember I wanted to pursue art and even though I stopped drawing consistently for a couple years while I was growing up, the desire to create something never left me. I have other hobbies like playing guitar and playing video games. When I have free time I'm usually either thinking of the next thing to draw or sleeping.

Artist Statement

My art focuses on putting lots of subjects into a single work, the purpose of that is to keep people's attention. My thinking behind this is that if people keep looking at the art they keep on seeing new things and they may see something they find amusing or interesting. As an artist I want to improve my grasp on realism and the relationship of objects when you put them near each other, like putting a water bottle next to wires. Some of the biggest things that influenced me was the anime I watched growing up, shows like Bleach and One Piece are things that I remember fondly and while these shows influenced me I don't plan on taking heavy influence from the styles of these shows while I work. The reason I create art is because of the struggle during the process and the feeling of overcoming that struggle when I complete a work. When I start working on art the main things I think about is whether I want it to be flat or 3 dimensional, what materials do I have around me, and depending on materials how to make the piece.

Artistic Influence

My artistic influence is Vladimir Kush who is a surrealist painter and sculptor. I enjoy his work because of its creativity, uses of color, and how the works keeps the viewer's attention. The artist's work tends to have lots of details which is something that I try to do in my own artwork. Some of his work is also humorous which is something that I really enjoy when looking at Kush's art. Some more examples of his work can be seen on his website http://vladimirkush.com/Originals-Available/

My Process

My process is pretty simple I usually get an idea randomly while going on with my day, then I start with a thumbnail sketch to try an get my thoughts on the paper, next I recreate the sketch on a larger piece of paper trying to be as accurate as possible, then if I'm using ink I'll start outlining and if I'm using paints I'll gather the paint and my brushes, finally if I'm using ink I'll put in colors with colored pencils or with more ink and if I'm using paints I'll carefully paint the piece. That is usually how I create all my artworks.
